The litter plaguing our oceans is a completely preventable problem, but successful management will require a three-pronged approach of effective policies grounded in sound science, industry participation and innovation, and changes in consumer behavior. Dr. Sherry Lippiatt will be presenting Marine Debris: Prevention Through Partnership based on her experience with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Marine Debris Program.  The program supports research, prevention, and removal of marine debris.

Dr. Sherry Lippiatt began her career with the NOAA Marine Debris Program in 2010 while completing her PhD at the University of California Santa Cruz. Sherry’s graduate studies were focused on the availability of micronutrients to support the growth of marine algae; looking to do more applied work, Sherry was drawn to NOAA where her efforts are focused on guiding research to inform marine policy. Sherry holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
